What is happning to the Church?

…Continued

From my observation, little have I heard of a congregation or church leaders fight over spiritual values or theological matters. If we dig deeper to the actual sources of most of the conflicts, they eventually boil downs to “selfishness”. And I believe selfishness can be best manifested in these three characters, the love of money, the love of power and arrogance. Once we let our carnal nature get hold of us, we set the stage for the devil to do the rest.

As to the Ethiopian evangelical Churches, I believe we are suffering from the same sinful nature that is crippling many western churches. In the former regime, history and fellow Christians who survived it tells us that the church was physically oppressed but spiritually liberated. However, I would boldly say the reverse is true for many congregations of our time. Moreover, there has been a shift on the oppressor part, formerly it was the regime but now it is our carnal nature that leaves within us.

The sad thing is no “freedom fighter” can free us from our selfishness that is imbedded in our sinful nature except Jesus. As the apostle Paul puts it
“O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord… Romans 7: 24-25”

He has also further warned us about the fatality of biting and devouring each other,
“If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.” Galatians 5:15”

My prayer

May God emancipate us from our sinful and selfish nature through the grace of his son, Jesus Christ and the power of the holly spirit.

God bless you and  Stay in touch

What is happening to the Church?

The other day I was reading the In Touch Ministry monthly bulletin for the month of May 2012. I was really disturbed by some of the facts I came across as I was reading through. It says that “ in the United Stats every year Christians File millions of lawsuits against other Christians; every day about 50 churches erupt to major internal clash; and around 1,500 pastors leave their congregation every month due to conflict or burnout.”

Tell me, as a body of Christ this doesn’t concern you ? We are supposed to be known for our forgiveness, mercy, humility and above all love. Jesus said...

"A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you,so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13 : 34,35)"

 What is happening to us?
